Geeky stuff

Is it possible to get a half decent computer for the kids for under £150? Second hand would be fine.

There seem to be a few on Ebay but I really don't know what I need to be looking out for.

I want one for the kids. They play on games websites, collect emails, watch iPlayer and go on YouTube.

Any advice or pointers would be great. I'm a complete fool when it comes to computers and dh is even worse.

I guess my worry is that if I get a second hand computer it will require me to sort it out which will be beyond my gift.

Do you have a local computer shop,we have one that often has refurbished pc,s for sale and I know recently they had a refurbished laptop for £190 and it came with a 3 month warranty, not long I know but enough to give you peace of mind that what you are buying isnt a pile of junk.

I understand Asda have a new one for £199....which is outside your paramenter but I thought it worth mentioning

KatyMac · 12/02/2010 20:42

But I can't find it so it may have been duff info - sorry

Spidermama · 12/02/2010 20:44

Would something like this be any good? There seem to be quite a lot on Ebay.

Will check Asda Katymac. I just wonder if I would get more for my money with second hand, but I guess it's a risk.

The laptop in your link comes with the original battery and the battery is not covered by the warranty, that would worry me as the life of laptop batteries can be short.

Now you see Bubbles that's exactly the sort of thing I would never notice in a million years.

half-decent? yes. That would be possible.

Do you already have a computer at home/internet access?

That Dell is pretty ancient. I would avoid.

Do you want a laptop or a desktop?

For a desktop something like this

Thanks Someguy. Yes we have my laptop and a busted PC. We also have a broadband router so all set really. I just want something to keep my kids off my laptop. They would rather be on the computer than watching telly these days.
