Back up copies of dvds - Can I fit more than 1 on a dvd?

DH seems to think that there are people in his work who copy dvds (probably illegally) but who have more than one on a dvd.

I want to take back ups of all the DCs dvds but wonder if I can get more than 1 on a dvd.

Can anyone advise?

Only by reducing quality, which loses the point of a backup really.
