top tips for silver surfers

I'm going to get my mum's internet connection up and running tomorrow. She's 78, pretty good at getting the hang of technical things but a complete computer/internet novice (eg is that thing a MOUSE?)

I know she can go to the local library for some help, but do any of you bright sparks know of any top tips for silver surfers to get her started (and save my sanity trying to explain "right click" etc)

There's also a range of manuals called '..... for Dummies', ie Internet for Dummies and so on that might be helpful?

No probs Tiger. Just asked my DH (he's the computer whizz in our house) he's recommended the 'Idiots Guide..., rather than the Dummies Guide, much better and easier to use he reckons.

Good on your Mum, if she's anything like my Mother, she'll be teaching you before long!

thanks, that's really helpful, thanks to your DH too. she's wanted a computer for ages but is a bit stumped now it's a reality. I think she'll be great with it! Might get her on here tonight saying hello so she can see how easy it is to talk to people. and then will namechange!
