Depending on what the gadget is and what OS you use it should be possible, with some limitations.

Plug in the MP3 player and see if it appears as somewhere you can copy files to, be that through Explorer, Finder or your desktop.

You might then be able drag files from iTunes directly to the player, however not all players work that way.

Also some files might not work depending on the format that they're in.

If you bought music from iTunes more than a year or two ago then it might be protected and will refuse to play on anything other than an iPod.

If you know it's a recent purchase or if you've copied it from a CD yourself and it still won't work then the music might be in AAC format. Which although better than MP3 and widely used is not quite as common as MP3.

iTunes can convert to MP3 though so that should be something you can get around.

Anyway give it a go and come back with any questions.

Music you buy from the iTunes store comes in MP4 format.

As a default iTunes on a Mac also copies CDs in the MP4 format, however I believe that on Windows it defaults to MP3.

MP4 is generally "better" than MP3, but the differences are pretty slight, but it is a slightly less supported format.

Try right clicking on a file in iTunes, a menu should pop up, is there an option saying "convert to MP3" (or something similar)?

If there is select it and a copy of the tune should be made, try copying that to your player.

If there's not what options do you get when you right click?

Long list but nothing that seems to refer to the actual format, all about playlists and organising them.

Follow the instructions here to convert to MP3:
support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

Sorry if you couldn't do it through a right click, not got access to iTunes and was doing it from memory.
