You can leave the PC plugged in and use wifi with the wii at the same time - assuming your netgear router does wifi.

to hijack...
I have a wireless connection, 2 laptops running on it fine - but I just can't connect the Wii to it - any ideas?

BadgersPaws · 06/01/2010 19:45

It depends on exactly what they've given you and what you've got.

Do you currently connect via a USB or a network cable? Does your PC have a network cable connection?

Does the router have any network cable plugs on it?

I had trouble with my Wii too, I fixed it by upgrading the firmware on the wireless router.

bruceb · 06/01/2010 21:01

Upgrading the firmware is generally IMO a good start...or at least checking the version and seeing what Netgear reckon is the latest version.....

Our netgear router shows the firmware version on one of the pages on the router......try logging into the router on 192.168.0.1 (if it's the same as our netgear) and have a nose around.

You'll need to do that on the main pc....

indigobarbie · 07/01/2010 00:04

the folks with the wii's - what specifically is happening when you try to connect to your wireless network? i.e are you getting any errors on the wii?

ChasingSquirrels · 07/01/2010 19:09

can't remember the error connection code 53000 series I think.
I'll have a look at updating the router - problem with that is I have forgotten my adminstration password for the router (duh!).
Thanks.

bruceb · 08/01/2010 14:58

Squirrels.....if you haven't changed it since install, it will be in the manual. Which you should be able to download if you've lost.

If all else fails, you could press the reset option (on the back, little pin-hole?) and set it all up again.....I always changed as little as humanly possible when starting routers, so that a restore would be less hassle.

Common passwords are admin, password or the make of the router..?

ChasingSquirrels · 08/01/2010 15:44

yeah, I am pretty sure I did change it - I think I tried the handbook password last time I looked at it, and all my own passwords I could think of!
Thanks for the tip on the reset, probably the way to go - I'll have a look when I find a spare hour.

ChasingSquirrels · 11/01/2010 21:14

well didn't update it, but reset and tried to connect the Wii with no password and it worked, so generated a new security password and still works so happy kids. Just have to work out how to re-do the connection for the wireless printer now...

bruceb · 13/01/2010 15:23

Good news.....we have a wireless printer that was given to us but never managed to get it working so we'd be interested in cribbing that bit!!

ChasingSquirrels · 14/01/2010 00:16

wireless printer was easy enough when I set it up - but just a "follow the instructions job" - so I need to locate said instructions and follow them again! Is only a few months old so they should be about somewhere, it is just finding the time.....(oh yes, when I am MN'ing would be a good idea!).
