If you have a BT Home Hub, the wireless key will be printed on the unit (on the back if it's one of the black ones).

Mamazon · 04/01/2010 14:01

do you have a BT home hub?

if so i think its rinted on the back.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:03

No have tiscali broadband

Belkin wireless box thingy

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 14:10

If it's not printed on the box, it must be on the paperwork (if you still have it). If not, suggest you call Tiscali if they provided the equipment. Whoever set up your PC needed this info to make it work so worth speaking with them first.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:15

I set up the computer with help from a friend.

I bought the belkin box

Tiscali provide the normal phone and internet all in one

which paperwork do I need - tiscali or belkin?

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 14:17

Belkin. Are you sure it's not on the wireless hub? May be worth speaking with your friend.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:21

no it only has a serial number and a product number will go look for the paperwork.

It was 3.5 years ago, no hope of her remembering more than me!

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 14:23

Shit! She might know where to find it though?

My DP set mine up and we had no end of trouble as he'd forgotten the password, etc. Sooo, he managed to reset it and reset password. Your friend may be able to help you do this?

Sorry I wasn't more help.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:24

think I am now connected to it using my customer account password! Now just no clue how to actually use the thing on the internet......

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2010 14:24

belkin you can find it I think by typing 192.168.2.1 into your web browser (where you put in www.mumsnet.etc) Is it your security wep thingy you are looking for?

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:31

I have no idea anymore, I have no clue.

I wanted and ipod but he got me this and I can't use it, have no idea what I'm doing and am pissed off. It doesn't even come with an instruction manual you have to download it which I can't, I don't have a printer.

I seem to now be connected to my wireless thing but it doesn't like my email address something is wrong with the host - what is that???

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2010 14:33

not sure why it needs your email address?

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 14:35

okay.

I want to use the internet on it - that is what it does isn't it?

How do I do that??????

BadgersPaws · 04/01/2010 15:31

Right, what's going on now?

Can your iPod Touch get onto your Wireless network? You should be able to tell by being able to see the little signal strength icon in the top left of the main page and your network should have a tick next to it on the Wi-Fi networks set up page.

popsycal · 04/01/2010 15:34

it is on a sticker onthe back of our homehub.....

BadgersPaws · 04/01/2010 15:39

Most wireless gadgets don't have the network key on the back, it's something you set yourself using the admin interface so don't go beating yourself up looking for one.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 19:50

I've been rocking in the corner since 3ish!!!

If I go into settings it says

Wi-Fi ON
big tick against Belkin54 (my wifi box) a padlock (presumable passworded connection) and full strength cone thingy

what do I do next to actually use the internet?

If I press the arrow key it says lots of stuff

IP address (filled in but not the same as my lap top says)
Subnet mask (again filled in)
router
DNS
Search domains

Are there nightclasses in this sort of thing?
Client ID

OK it sounds like it's connected.

What do you mean "use the internet"?

To use the web go back to the iPod's main page and look for Safari, that's the web browser.

You should also be able to see iTunes and the App Store to buy applications and music respectively.

There's a mail application too for accessing some email accounts such as Yahoo.

There's then other applications that use the internet such as maps and weather.

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 20:08

thank you so much.

Okay obviously all is not well, when I open up Safari (had no idea that is what I had to use!) it cannot open page "operation could not be completed. Invalid argument"

so I guess that is something to do with how i've connected to wifi.

I thin I may be going via something I shouldn't be???

Think I need some in person advice

I'm back off to rock in the corner!

Have you tried the address OhYouBadBadKitten suggested? I had the same problem with my Belkin hub and ended up finding it through that route.

Worth adding a sticker onto your hub when you do find it eventually!

SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 20:15

just tried what kitty suggested,

err it gives me 4 keys - I take it I use the first one????

Problem is it now says it is connecting but I used the tiscali password and it accepted it?????

will sit and fiddle with it a bit more and resist the temptation to throw it through the window

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 04/01/2010 20:20

wow amazingm it worked.

Now how do I get mumsnet big enough to read on it????

That key was about 30 alphanumeric digit thingies long........

another very large gulp of wine

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2010 08:38
