Turning off ups at night?

After a couple of recent power cuts and lots of brown outs my pc died (turned out to be psu which took out the hd in its demise) I've invested in a ups. (not the first time a pc has died under similar circs in our house)

Up until now, after I've powered down I've always turned everything off at the switch. I like not consuming unneccesary power. However, I am keen not to kill another machine. Will it harm turning off the ups at night one everything is powered down?

No it won't do it any harm at all. Make sure you use the switch on the UPS to power it down - most of them have a light that goes off or emit a beep when they have powered down and it is safe to turn off the mains supply. If you just cut the power without doing this they will of course go into power supply mode and drain the battery,
