Virgin mobile PAYG

Just a quick question about the title really. I'm not very technically minded and I'm lost with this.

Ds was lucky enough to get a little PAYG phone on the Virgin network for Christmas. I bought it from e2save online and paid for a £10 top up to come with it ~ which apparently it has, but is not showing up on his phone as a credit, so the phone can't be used ~ not a problem until he returns to school, but all the same...
The woman in Virgin on the phone employ said I should take the top up card to a shop and have them swipe it, but I can't imagine for a minute that that could be the case.

So...does anyone have any idea how this works please? or what I can do to sort it out. The phone is a Nokia 2330 if that makes any difference at all.

TIA.

When I used to have one a few years back, there was a scratch panel which had a code under it. You then texted the code to a topup number, think 789111.

Does the card say anything on it?

If you have a Carphone Warehouse store near you, pop in and ask them. E2Save is a trading division of Carphone Warehouse, so the staff there may be of a little help even if they aren't quite the same company.

Ahhh..thank you! I will have a look

No, no scratch off bit.
It has a personal unblocking key(number)of which I have no idea what that means.

I think I got the same phone

I got the bloke in the shop to do it for me lol. What's the number you call for the Virgin top up? Surely they can check if £10 has been put on the card or phone?

nannynick · 30/12/2009 14:36

PUK - that doesn't sound like the right thing at all.

Are there any other cards in the box? Any receipts with a voucher number on them?
Anything with a Green Top-Up symbol?

nannynick · 30/12/2009 14:43

Think I've found it - when ordering, there was an Info box saying how the £10 Airtime was credited. e2save Web10ETopUp It takes around 3 days to be credited to the phone, from the point the SIM is registered on the network.

FiveSoloRings · 30/12/2009 14:44

Virgin top up is 789 I think.

No nothing Nick. I think they used to be scratch off card, but now it's a swipe card that you re use.

More help available here - see How long does it take for me to get my airtime credit?

FiveSoloRings · 30/12/2009 14:48

Well, I registered it on the 26th and it was paid for on Dec 7th, so it ought to be on there by now. I'm loathed to phone the customer services as I think it's a 10p a minute number(0871).

OP posts:
FiveSoloRings · 30/12/2009 14:50

Looks like I may have to though...

foxinsocks · 30/12/2009 14:50

I think when they swipe that card it can sometimes work. I bought my dad this and he used the swipe thing a few times.

Think what Nick has linked to makes sense though. Eeek at it possibly taking 10 days to get that credit put on there though!

foxinsocks · 30/12/2009 14:52

it is 10p a min, make sure you call from a landline

the fact that you can't email people like this drives me up the f'ing wall

nannynick · 30/12/2009 14:58

You would have thought it would have been credited by now. Give it another 24 hours, make sure the phone is left on so that the network can send it notification once airtime has been credited.

Yes it looks like it is a 0871 522 number, so a g7 price code, 9.787 currently from a BT landline (BT Special Numbers Price List - PDF)

FiveSoloRings · 30/12/2009 15:01

Thanks both! I'm not on BT, lol I'm on VM!!!

Normal swiping and buying will I'm sure work fine, but it's the factr that I bought it 'on' the phone/SIM already online that's bugging me!
Can you top up in the Carphone Warehouse shops? if so, it might be worth me going down there today...

Search for Virgin Mobile numbers at www.saynoto0870.com/search.php. They have some freephone numbers you could try.

FiveSoloRings · 30/12/2009 22:23

Thank you!

So look a bit longer than 72 hours then... ah well, least it's on now. Expect the delay was due to lots of people registering phones shortly after Xmas.

FiveSoloRings · 31/12/2009 17:41

Nope! now he tells me it didn't come through, so I'm going to go to Carphone Warehouse. Grrrrrrrr!!!
Kids are daft aren't they!
