ipod classic and ipod touch

help! i have an ipod classic with loads of music on BUT the laptop that had my itunes library on died so basically i have no back up and i just haven't edited my ipod at all for months.

for xmas DH bought me ipod touch and has set up itunes etc. on my new laptop. so that's all working fine but would love to transfer my ipod classic onto it. is that possible?

any help welcome!!

I'm sure there was a thread about getting music from an iPod only a few weeks ago.

Off the top of my head (after Googling last time) you can connect the iPod (but don't synch) and read it like a removable drive - you need to look for hidden files I think. You can then drag these to your PC and copy them into iTunes.

There are also utilities you can buy/download that will do it.

Yes it is possible and there's free software out there to do it so don't go paying for anything....

Which Operating System do you use? Mac OS X or Windows? If Windows which flavour?

I am pretty sure when I plugged DD's iPod into my laptop (was upgraded and had to reinstall iTunes, etc) it asked me if I wanted to transfer songs not in my iTunes library from her iPod before sync took place.
