i've been told that is classic behaviour from an infected computer. i have mcaffee and its says there is nothing wrong. what can i do? short of wiping the disc clean, which tbh, i dont know how to do anyways.

(i also dont have the disc for office, as oh has it from his business and we are both currently in different countries, so no access to it)

First clear your cookies and cache.

Then try to download Spybot Search and Destroy. And run it.

Which operating system are you using?

stitch · 23/12/2009 15:27

windows vista

how do i delete the cookies from safari? i think i know how to do it from firefox. (ty)

Yes, download that and run it.

Prob takes ages if your running slow already.

tvaerialmagpiebin · 23/12/2009 17:17

Here is the download link
www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

its working a lot more smoothly now, but it wont let me delete them all, says i am not logged inas an administrator, when i am. so not sure about that. but its working much better already.

Turn the computer right off, log in again as administrator, then delete them.
Do you regularly update anti-virus, or have it set to auto-update?
I use this which is a very good program (and free)

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 23/12/2009 19:01

I would then download malwarebytes to see if it catches anything else.

HinnyPet · 23/12/2009 20:19

I've got the same message, that I'm not an administrator. How can this be fixed?

tvaerialmagpiebin · 23/12/2009 22:02

can you create a new administrator account
then check your own??
sorry at the limit of my techie powers now..

google administrator error viruses?

mimsum · 23/12/2009 23:17

I thought my PC must have a virus last year as it was going slower and slower and constantly crashing - took it into a computer shop and there was nothing there - it was just that vista took up so much memory there was very little room for anything else

I have since converted to a mac and will never be going back ...

stitch · 24/12/2009 07:27

i did it a third time, and got the same message, each time with more of the trojans being deleted. then it asked me to restart thecomputer, which i did. took an hour to run the scan, and wheni woke up this mornng, it said it had found nothing, and it seems to be working fine now
i am going to keep a watch on this thread and use those links if it stops working properly again. thank you for all your help.

Just found this, have had the same problem for a while now. Can someone tell me how to do the first bit (empty cache and cookies) with firefox? Don't even know what that means, tbh.

stitch · 24/12/2009 07:49

tools, options, then privacy tab.

but, once you download the spybot it dletes the temporary files itself.
mine is working beautifully again.

It might be worth downloading and running ccleaner(formally known as crap cleaner). It will clear temporary files and any crap no longer needed,I,m no good at links but this is the download pagewww.ccleaner.com/update/.
