the screen has been broken for ages, but it still worked ok (most of the time) but it finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago - I hadn't had it long, it was a nice shiny fat new one

hoped the insurance would take care of it but they said no, because you have to claim within 48h of hurting it apparently

I wish I was the sort of person who got round to doing things that quickly but anyway, anyone know how much it might be if I have to actually replace it?

I would phone your nearest Apple store and ask - Find a Store.

Go into your nearest Apple Store.

The case of mine was broken and I took it in and they replaced the phone.

Look a bit sad.

You normally have to claim within a few weeks so say "Errm a couple of weeks ago..." when they ask or they may refuse to help
