Bits of music - from I Tunes

I have been asked to compile a music quiz, involving recording small snippets of pop songs for the contestants to identify.

I used to be able to do it with an old 45rpm and a tape recorder, but how do I do it on the computer?!

My music is stored in ITunes.

You can do this within iTunes, though it is a bit fiddly....

1. Find the song you want and "Get Info" on it (on my Mac that's in the right click pop up menu).

2. Go to the "Options" tab and enter a start and stop time, click OK.

3. With the song still selected go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Create AAC version" (exactly what this option will say will differ depending on what Operating System your on and possibly what format the tune is in, it might well say "Create MP3 version").

4. A duplicate song will be made with the selected start and end. The original song shouldn't be affected.

5. Go back and scrub out the start and end times you entered in step 2.

If that's a bit too fiddly and you want to be able to have a bit more control over the editing then there are plenty of free MP3 editors around that will do the job, let me know if you want more information.

I used to dabble with Audacity (which is available for both Macs and PCs) but it's been a while so other than telling you where to get it I'm not sure that I comment much...
