How do I delete my hotmail account?

Getting all sorts of spoof and phishing emails (that look TOTALLY genuine) into a new hotmail account. How can I delete and close the account? Have checked on hotmail and their help section but it's not apparently obvious how to do it. Any help?

You check you have moved all your email address's to a new account and let everyone know that you are no longer going to check that account. Then after the old address has been left for 6 months hotmail will delete it. I couldn't find any other way of doing that with my old account.

you can do it but it never goes away

I deleted mine (there is some way to do it, took me a day to find out how) but you know what, the address is still there and functioning grr.

If I had my time again, I would delete all my contacts out of the old address and then just leave it.

thanks ladies. i checked all over their website, including help pages, and they don't make it very easy for you to close your account. sent them some feedback to that effect. it's not my main email account, so not a huge problem. just worrying that in the space of a week i received 2 phishing emails.
