Reviewing a document in word

I have a small document which I need to be smaller. I want to reduce the word count and know it was easy to do in Word 2003(I think).I could chose what and how to reduce. I have word 2007 and cant find how to do it.I can count the words but thats all.
Please can anyone help -even point me to an online editor.

I don't know the answer, but I'm fascinated. How would Word know what words to remove anyway?

Or do you just mean it won't let you edit the document? Deleting/adding bits by hand.

I know it sounds odd but sometimes a document just has to be cut down and this is an easy way to do it. You can specify how many words or what percentage to remove .It uses the usual grammar tools to make a decision and just highlights what seems to be the best to take out.You of course have the final say.

I have word 2007 now and although it has all sorts of whizzy editing stuff it seems odd that this facility was taken away.

Ooh, I wouldn't like that!

Have your tried looking under language or spelling and grammar to see if there's anything you can tick there?

Do you mean Auto Summarize?

You can find it like this:

Office Button > Word Options > Customize >
All Commands > AutoSummary Tools & put it on your quick access toolbar.

I have to try that. I never knew it had it and it sounds clever.

DoNotAnnoy · 16/05/2009 18:10

When I have used it in the past it has been rather dubious....but then I have doing scientific documents which don't always follow normal grammar and structure rules.

IMO though there is no substitute for a human editor.

Off to see if I can find the tool and then have a bit of fun with some journalistic articles

I'm imagining it taking a 4 hour budget speech and making it say "we get your money and you get nothing, ok?"

jenwyn · 16/05/2009 18:17

Okay -I found it .A lot of stuff is hidden and I just had to search.
It was Auto summarize for anyone interested. And its not great for the document Im working on which is fragmented. Oh well.

1,2,3...

Ooops sorry Rusty bear.
Didn't refresh screen so didn't see your helpful post.Had to go the long way round but got there in the end.

And I agree there is no substitute for human editing but I remembered it as being so much better.
