Installing Firefox

I'm using an iMac (OSX 10.5.6 if that means anything to you - it doesn't to me!) I use Safari as my web browser; it came with the Mac, and I have no idea how it got there.

I'm trying to post an article on a writers' site, but the tech people there tell me that I have to be using Firefox (or Internet Explorer - but I can't use that on a Mac, can I?) rather than Safari, or else I can't post.

I've looked up Firefox on the internet, and it doesn't look much different from Safari. What I want to know is whether I will harm the way my Mac works if I just download Firefox. Will it replace Safari, or would I have to uninstall Safari first? And is Firefox any good?

I am very confused, and would welcome any advice!

Hi. Safari is loaded on Macs in the same way that Microsoft stuff is on most PCs. Firefox is much better than Internet Explorer. There is more info and a link to the download on here www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/mozillafirefox.html. It is the official apple site so nothing to worry about there. There is no way that Firefox will harm your Mac. The download will not replace your Safari and you do not have to uninstall Safari either. You will just have a choice of which to use.

Fragilemum - I've downloaded Firefox (via your link), and it's working perfectly. Thank you!
