Xbox 360 live - what wireless adaptor?

DS#1 wants XBox live. Can I use an ordinary wireless adaptor in the Xbox or do I have to fork out for an 'official' one?

No you have to buy an official one, total rip off!

This is why my PC and my 360 are ethernet cabled into the wireless router and only my laptop and PSP use the wireless.

I do the ethernet option too, far cheaper!

Aghh! Damn. Xbox is upstairs and router is downstairs. Either the laptop moves upstairs or we find a few more yards of cable.

Ethernet is not always succesful and resulted in us paying another £60 for the proper one which has been no problem

Why would ethernet be unsuccessful? Its hard-wiring directly into the router, i.e. into the modem! That makes no sense!

I don't know but someone did it for us and the xbox wouldn't work.It make not make sense but it did happen God MN is sooooo argumentative these days no wonder people are going crackers!

All you do is run a wire from Xbox to Router, so how could that not work? Gee, I don't know, maybe it was a bad wire, or maybe the person who tried to set it up for you was an idiot? I'm going for option 2.
