Best Legal Music Downloading Site?

I am bored with the music (my cds) on my mp3 and have never downloaded from a site. Have just been looking at HMV and wondered if thdre are any better? Any recommendations please as i feel a bit of a novice

Amazon.co.uk have an mp3 store now - it's DRM free which is a very good thing.

....7 digital is a good site, but be aware that they offer music in a variety of formats, not all of which are compatible with all players or computers.

....I know it is uncool, but I do quite like iTunes. It is the easiest to use, well, it is if you are using an iPod. The benefit of 7 digital (and Amazon, and Audible for audiobooks) is that they hold a library, so you are able to download repeatedly onto authorised computers. Not used emusic, but this is because I didn't like the look of the site, which seemed to require a monthly sub. Sod that.

...I understand that iTunes are removing a layer of DRM later in the year, thus making it possible to change the format of downloaded items (so you can use them on players other than iPod, should you so wish). I think this tells us that the market is competitive, so try a few sites...

I am looking forward to browsing. Don't have an ipod retiredgoth2 so interested to hear about itunes .
Never posted on this topic before but have loads of geeky stuff to ask as I am teaching basic comuter courses and don't know enough myself
