Help! Columns making headers keep disappearfrom my Word doc!

I'm being driven mad by headers!

I'm writing a booklet and I've put headers and footers on all but the first page. I want some pages to be in columns (but not all). As soon as I put the bit I want into columns then the whole of that page (including bits I haven't selected) go into columns and the next page doesn't have headers or footers any more - it seems to think it is a first page! The next page is back to the correct page number with correct headers and footers though.

It is very frustrating, I'm probably missing something obvious!

Thank you

I have always found setting up headers difficult, and with me it tends to be a process of trial & error, but I suspect it's to do with your section breaks (assuming that's what you've used to mark off your section that's in columns). If you click Page set up on the header/footer toolbar, you can select whether it applies to that section, the whole document or that point forward.

I think I've set the headers up properly (applied to whole document but not the first page) they just keep disappearing. And now if I try and get rid of them it messes everything even more! Argghh.
