Which photo editing software is best for a beginner?

I'm looking to download a photo editing software for my photo's. I am a complete novice, would appeciate any recommendations

Picasa very good, but don't ask me any complicated questions as hubbie does all downloading. I just print off

I use picasa and photo filtre both of which I have downloaded for free.

I like picasa in particular as it is easy to find your photos as it gathers them all up.
