Have you connected it to your computer and got it started?

For email it will only be able to hook up to certain email providers, mine is hooked up to my gmail account.

Go to
settings
mail,contacts, calendars
then under accounts fill in your details as prompted and that should link it to your email account.

...it seems I am 'Geek of the day'....

iPhone usually asks to connect to any available wireless network when you try to access the interweb.

...to do so manually, click Settings

you could send it to me, I will sort it out and return it............................................. in a few years

Your home wifi could have a password AND a button to press when you want to add new devices to the network.

If your wifi equipment is anything like mine, the password will be written on a sticker somewhere on or under it.

LOL! Tempting offer Mrs W.

Email - DH has got it receiving email now but still can't send.

Wifi - I have it on the 'on' settings for wifi, iphone can 'see' our wireless hub thingy but even when you put in the password it still won't work

CoteD'Azur - will look for button...

What network are you on Gaspod? I have a new iPhone 3G which is fine on the 3G network, but I can't get it to connect to the Orange Livebox at all, which is a pain because you can't download some stuff via 3g. Googlig the problem produces a lot of ideas, none of which seems to work for everybody

I'm not actually very surprised about the problem tbh, because I have so far connected 7 different laptops, including a Mac, to our Livebox at various times & none of them would connect until I put the CD in & ran the 'add another computer' program - despite Orange & everyone else telling me you should be able to just enter the password. Obviously I can't use the CD for the iPhone.

I'm going to wait & see if I can get onto the network at school when I go back to work next term before I try ringing Orange - last time I was on the phone for about an hour & ended up changing the channel on the Livebox.

I can get my Googlemail OK on the iPhone on 3G - no problems at all so far

I had to change to a different email provider to get the push function to work. I used yahoo mail and could get and receive mails but could not receive them automatically. Apparently there is a problem with the yahoo/iPhone mail settings.

RustyBear · 28/12/2008 11:08

I've done it! Gaspod, still don't know if you're on Orange, buteven if you're not, it may be a similar method for you & it may help other poor souls who are...

  1. When you open an app that needs the internet, you get a box asking if you want to connect to > Don't use this to connect initially.

2)Go to Settings-Wi-fi(name sure it's On)then tap the network, you'll get a password box.

3)Enter your password - it is case sensitive, no spaces and use the shift key each time, even if all the letters are upper case don't use the 'double click on shift' caps lock.

  1. Before you tap 'Join' press and hold the 'pairing button on the wireless box (mines on the back, marked with a 1. Hold it for at* least 3 seconds.

  2. Tap on 'Join' and (hopefully) it will work

hth - Good Luck!

2)Go to Settings-Wi-fi(name sure it's On)then tap the network, you'll get a password box.

name = make, obviously

Didn't work Our email is through Orange. We have a BT hub for our wifi.

RustyBear · 28/12/2008 14:29

Oh, sorry it didnt work.
I couldn't get on to my sister's BT hub yesterday, but it was dropping out all the time anyway & BIL was having trouble on his laptop, so I didn't try very hard.

Few suggestions on here - any good?

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 28/12/2008 18:09

Thanks Rusty, I'll check with dh as to what he has tried too as he was fiddling around with it/cursing BT last night.
