Photo calendar - found a template but how do you insert picture?

I know this must be easy! found a free template but am struggling to insert photo. Instructions talk about picture software like photosmart - needless to say I don't even know what that is never mind how to use it.
Is is possible to just insert a pic onto the saved template without software? Alternatively, any other way of doing this calendar myself?

If you have an apple mac you can use iPhoto. Other than that I'm no help

What format is the template - which program do you use to open it?

dont have a clue - all I know (from the blurb) is that it is a JPEG doc.

Where's the template from? Can you link? Do you have any photo software? WIndows or Mac?
