I use AVG free edition. it has found nasties that were missed by other anti-virus.
Another one you can try is Super anti spyware free edition

These two have really helped me when my 'puter got infected

DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING THAT POPS UP EITHER.

thanks, some weird crap was just going on, had to shut down and start again, keeps getting messages from the protection center too.

Happened to me last year. Norton missed some really nasty bugs

Good luck sorting it all out!

Some anti-virus programs don't do a very good job at detecting spyware. Give this a go.

I had this, and as soon as I uninstalled Macafee, it went It was the free one that went with the sky package. We haven't used Macafee since and no problems! We now use Windows Live Onecare. They do a 90 day free trial!

HTH

And I know I spelt Mcafee wrong!!

2childrenandit · 13/12/2008 13:01

Would second the getting rid of McCafee - its tyhe first thing our IT guy aid when he came to look at my laptop - removed McCafee and things went faster, AVG is great for viruses and something called Adaware which prevents bugs etc coming through pop ups.

whoingodsnameami · 13/12/2008 13:59

My mcafee is supposed to be one of the best, its a business one that kasts a livetime, but obviously not as AVG found 60 odd threats, most of them trojens. I still have Antivirus 360 protection center popping up telling me I am under threat???

OP posts:
singleWhiteMale · 13/12/2008 16:38

Antivirus 360 is a fake anti-virus program which gives bogus security alerts in the hope that you'll buy the full version to 'remove' the (non-existent) viruses.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which I linked to above, can remove it (for free).

whoingodsnameami · 13/12/2008 16:46

Ahhhh, thankyou.
