Freeview - BBC1 and BBC2 have gone.

Our freeview box occasionally has a hissy fit if you flick the channels too fast and does that thing of saying "New channels have been detected on the flow", and makes you wait a minute or two while it downloads a "list". You then have the option of clicking Yes or No to accept this "list" without knowing what is on it.

So it did this several times yesterday, and now I come to it to find BBC1 and BBC2 totally gone. They used to be channels 1 and 2, which now don't exist. They aren't re-assigned to any other numbers - I've checked.

Heeeelllp!!

I can only suggest unplugging it and/or pressing a reset button if it has one which you probably tried.

Does it have any kind of signal strength display? My FVRT has that and the poor reading led me to discover that the aerial lead was partly out of the socket (it had a power cable wrapped around it which probably wasn't helping)

Let it re-scan completely, as if it was the first time out of it's box.

It should find the channels again.

UnquietDad · 07/11/2008 21:30

Yes, I've been flicking through that on the menu - it won't even give me a signal strength for channels 1 and 2.

sorry girlandboy, being dim - how do i do that?

Erm!

Press menu button (or set up button)
go to set up (or scanning)
should be an option to rescan

I am doing this from memory of old freeview box. We have just got a new telly with the freeview built in and the remote is different to the old one.

It will take a couple of minutes to rescan. We do this every few months anyway, just to see if there are any new channels we can get.

UnquietDad · 07/11/2008 21:42

OK, so I tried a basic unplug and reboot first
and it re-scanned, and magically re-discovered the lost channels.

Thanks!

Bit worrying that it can do this for no reason...

There you go! Ahhhh...the wonders of modern technology!

I think the tuner can fail eventually, but mostly I think the update software is buggy on many of them.

UnquietDad · 07/11/2008 22:07

Thanks - will watch it closely...
