Nokia N95 - some of the keys are working, I don't think I have insurance.....it's going to cost me a fortune isn't it?

I can't make any calls (as the dial button won't respond), I can't push the middle "select" button or the up/down directional arrows, and the 0 isn't working either nor is the button to access the menu isn't working either. I can't access my number stored on there, and a lot of them that's the only place I have them.

It's on a Pay Monthly contract - but I don't think I've took insurance out with it (stupid I know - but I don't remember seeing the option when I ordered it - online - otherwise I'm sure I would have done) ...........do you think it's going to be fixable, and how much am I going to be looking at

I would take out insurance now, wait a month (or buy a cheap £5 phone) then claim.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 06/11/2008 17:34

natural - I can't wait a month, almost all the phone number I use/need on on there - and I can't even access them (As the buttons won't let me) so I can't call anyone. I rarely use my landline - only have it still because it's part of a bundle with Virgin and it only has a small memory so doesn't have many of my regular numbers on it.

do you have your numbers stored to phone or sim, if on sim when you change your sim card into anotehr phone your numbers will still be on there (I had a pink swivel nokia that this happened with and went into tmobile shop and they sent it off for free repair as it had a 1 year guarantee) they also gave me a brick loan phone

lou33 · 06/11/2008 17:37

how long have you had it?

i got one as an upgrade but i set it back, the battery life was so appalling

have you called your phone company to see what they can do?

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 06/11/2008 17:38

ermm I can't remember (and obviously can't check - think most of them should be on the sim I think (hope).

That's a point - I've only had it a few months so should be under guarantee still shouldn't it.

Will go and find the box and bumpf it came with after I've sorted the boys dinner

Had it since June/July time (can't remember exactly) don't have a problem with battery life or any such thing........just the keys not working now (although it's a N95 8gb - don't know whether they have better battery life than the standard one?)

Yep I think all phones come with a one year guarantee and mine was fixed free (they did say that if it had proven water damage ie been dropped in loo/sink then they'd charge but let me know first) but mine was very very similar to you just random buttons wouldnt work

mine was the 8gb one too, 6hrs the battery lasted on full charge , on standby

am much happier with my new one, a sony ericsson c905

wannaBe · 06/11/2008 17:49

I'd been considering getting a n95 but have heard so many negative things about it that I would never bother now.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 06/11/2008 17:54

6hrs?? I usually only charge mine every 2 days - and I use it all the time (including using it as my camera)

I love mine and as I don't use my landline it's my access to the outside (RL) world >

and now just to add to my wonderful afternoon I've just had to hack 3 tins (tomatoes and beans) open to go into the dinner as my can opener has given up the ghost........

yes 6 hrs

when i called to say i wanted to return it on account of it being crap, i was told there have been so many issues with the battery life of the n95, that at one point nokia considered selling it with 2 batteries

Goober · 06/11/2008 21:33

I have same phone. Had same problem. Contacted Vodafone, as it is on a contract with them, they sent me a pre paid envelode, I sent it in they couldn't fix it so sent me a new one out.

mumtomilkmonster · 06/11/2008 22:20

my dh had similar prob, his n95 was ringing people even when keypad locked, or put you on and off hold continuously when on a call. Sent it away via 3 mobile, returned fixed in a week. battery life rubbish by the way !!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 06/11/2008 22:30

oh no Goober - shit what if they can't fix it - I haven't uploaded all my photos and videos off it yet

OP posts:
popmum · 06/11/2008 23:05

you can try taking it to a small mobile shop (not VF or orange etc) - took one of mine after odd buttons didnt work and the guy fixed it really quickly - for free! there are some genius guys out there who know how to fix them!
