We use AVG Free - I often see it recommended.

AMumInScotland · 17/10/2008 13:33

I've also got AVG free and it works fine. You should certainly have some antivirus installed if you're going online, and make sure it's set to update itself frequently.

DaphneMoon · 17/10/2008 13:37

We use AVG too it is very good. I'm sure it was free, I leave all that kind of thing to DP!

MummyTheQueenOfDarkness · 17/10/2008 13:40

another AVG user here.

MrVibrating · 17/10/2008 17:44

AVG Free is often recommended here, but it does have limitations. Unless you only visit web sites you know are safe and never view images or click any links in emails without checking where they go to, you will not be fully protected with AVG or any other free product (as far as I know).

You don't have to pay £79 a year though. Search Amazon or the PC World on-line store. For example AVG Anti-virus Pro £25.49 for 2 years from Amazon.

PortAndDemon · 17/10/2008 17:48

You're going to need a firewall and anti-spyware software as well, if you don't buy a commercial security suite. There are good free options available for both of those, though.

UnquietDad · 17/10/2008 17:49

Avira Anti-Vir here, coupled with ZoneAlarm. Has been fine.

I used to use Norton/Symantec and it was awful. Clunky and bug-riddled.

MadameCastafiore · 17/10/2008 17:50

Right girls thanks!

Although did try and upgarde the AVG thing and got sdtung for nearly £70 from a site that came off of the AVG thing site - rang them because I only clicked on the £69.00 thing and I have been scammed by a bogus Website so am onto Mastercard to try and get money back plus have had to reset all settings on PC because it buggered everything up - not a good advert for AVG!

I use AVG (avast) and I have never had a virus in 4 years. It updates every day.

UnquietDad · 17/10/2008 17:54

Have a look at the free downloads on filehippo. The ones I mentioned are there.

MadameCastafiore · 17/10/2008 17:56

Oh god - this is too much now - have the AVg thingy but should I look for more?

If you have AVG that should be fine for anti-virus checking. Do you have a firewall with it?
