Is it worth fixing a laptop?

It has 2 problems

1. power cable socket is wibbly
2. it has lost it's d (well it still works it is the key that is lost

So is it worth fixing?

Or will it die?

Hmm... depends. Mostly, I reckon no as it's a bugger to fix them and usually quite expensive. However, those two issues don't seem very major, so probably would be worth doing and quite quick to do. Have you got somewhere local that can give you a quote before they do any work on it?

Easy to fix the D, unsure about the power cable socket... Ours keeps cutting out and a computer expert friend of DHs says it's not worth fixing as it's a laptop

Hmm... I read it as wobbly - i.e. loose, which would be just tightening things up? Agree if it's an unknown intermittent fault then it gets much more expensive and far less worth fixing.

I always feel at a lost about these things

I have transported all of value off it so if they break it I have lost nothing

Well apart from my emails & address book which won't behave

It only cuts out when I move the cable

Hmm I swopped my Acer for a dell

My power socket problem (Asus laptop) also meant I needed a new motherboard, as the power socket was connected to it. I had it changed under warranty, but I expect it is not very cheap if you have to pay.

It did last for a long time (several months) while it was 'wobbly' though,before it finally could not be charged up at all. When the battery finally drained down, we had to send it in for repair. Just make sure you backup all your files elsewhere if you decide to wait it out!
