My power socket problem (Asus laptop) also meant I needed a new motherboard, as the power socket was connected to it. I had it changed under warranty, but I expect it is not very cheap if you have to pay.
It did last for a long time (several months) while it was 'wobbly' though,before it finally could not be charged up at all. When the battery finally drained down, we had to send it in for repair. Just make sure you backup all your files elsewhere if you decide to wait it out!
