Moving photos from phone to laptop. Help

I have a Nokia phone and want to move photos to a Dell laptop. I have downloaded the software I need from the Nokia site. I have a little attachment that I presume goes from the phone to the laptop but where abouts in the laptop do I plug it in? It is dh's laptop and I am nervous of doing something wrong. Help

usb port which on most laptops is at the side. you wont break the laptop. a usb port has a three fonged 'pitchfork' fork picture above/below it. its the only place the attatchment will fit
