Powerpoint - when I'm giving a presentation, will I be able to see the notes?

This is a pretty stupid question, as I've used powerpoint for ages, but if I'm giving a presentation using powerpoint and an overhead projector, so that the slides take up the full screen, will I be able to see the notes pane on my laptop screen? And if so what setting do I need to use?

didn't think you could do this - as projector projects whats on screen? Interested to see if you can!

When I have done this, I have my back to the big screen but the laptop in front of me. It doesn't actually project like a cine projector, its done with wires.
However it does project exactly whats on the screen so the audience would see your notes.
You can have the laptop in front of you so that you can see what the audience is looking at without having to turn away from them, and have your notes on little cards in your hand.
I find that if I practice enough I don't need extra notes as the sight of a particular screen prompts me to say what would have been in my notes if I had any.

I have printed out the notes pages before.

It is possible if your laptop has the dual monitor feature, but it's a bit complicated. You can find out more by googling PowerPoint Dual Monitor.

I believe it's easier on a Mac.

Yes, you can arrange it so you have written notes below the presentation on the screen, but these don't show on the powerpoint, but please dont ask me how to do it. As I cant remember and I dont have powerpoint on my macbook

you cannot see them on your screen, you will have to print out a copy of slides plus notes. Go to 'file' and then 'print'. There is a drop down on the print window that says 'print what'. click on the drop down and click on 'notes pages'. That way your presentation will print out with a slide and notes on each A4 page. You can play your slide show as normal.

Eek, I don't have a Mac. And I'm using the client's laptop so don't know if it will have the dual monitor thingy. I did have a look at that link, Rusty, but that's way over my head technically. I think I'm going to have to think about another way of doing this - don't want to be leafing through hundreds of print outs. Maybe transfer the notes onto a separate page and refer to that if I need to. And practice. Bugger.

It might be worth asking the client if they have dual monitor capability - they may actually have done it themselves before. I wouldn't advise fiddling with the monitor settings otherwise

I'll ask her in the morning, that's a good idea. If not, it will have to be the printed notes and plenty of practice route. How bad do you think it is to have notes in front of you? WOuldn't plan on reading from them, just referring occasionally. If it's a lectern I'll be fine, but I have a hunch it's a "perched on the desk" type affair.

If you use notes just print out bullet points in big font so you can glance at them. Looks better than reading off notes verbatim.

hi, yes it is possible- think its on the view drop down menu. can you have a practise a day before before you do it? the help on pp is quite good have been off work for ages so am not much help really
