How to dispose of mobile phone?

I want to dispose of my old mobile properly as it can't be fixed but all of my photos are on it and I'm logged into all of my apps on it and there's personal info on it. It won't turn on at all (constant loading screen) so I can't wipe/reset it. Is it best to just keep it in the very back of a cupboard permanently?!

not sure smashing the battery would be a good idea 💥! I inadvertently drowned a phone (had it in a waterproof pouch swimming in the sea…yep turned out waterproof pouch wasn’t waterproof 🫣). I put it in the electrical waste at work, the hard drive would have been completely destroyed, by the water and the salt. Can you log out / erase date via your apple or android account remotely?
