Can't message businesses on Facebook on phone but can on laptop.

When I go to a business page on facebook on my Android phone the message button is greyed out and doesn't work. However it's fine on the laptop. I've tried uninstalling Facebook and messenger and it's still the same. Any ideas?

Might you need to install the messenger app? On my iPhone I can’t view or send messages anymore because I refuse to have yet another app.
