I didn't think any of them were still air worthy.

Indeed!

I thought they had all been grounded a few years ago .

They were.

Good effort by Flightradar, one of the more imaginative April 1st’s I’ve seen in a while.

Interesting. So their data is subject to alteration/falsification, then?

I've got bad news for you about all data on the internet......

BeachRide · 01/04/2025 12:28

This one is quite sad, I think 🙁

Me too. The crash was horrific.

Love a FlightRadar thread. They also do Santa’s sleigh on Christmas eve, genius etc.

Yep….very much so.

Flightradar and other sites get a lot of their tracking info crowd sourced from amateur owned and run receivers so if you have the means of generating the right format data and getting into the site’s system you can create phantom tracks.

The systems Air Traffic Control and other professional users have access to have much higher levels of protection.

Have you not seen the excellent Santa ones around Dec 23/4 ?

SweetBaklava · 01/04/2025 17:02

I totally fell for this 🤣

MyGardenHasGreatTits · 01/04/2025 17:08

That's a good way of causing alarm to people - chuck in a squadron of bombers heading somewhere that 'forgot to switch off' = the internet going ballistic.

Just thinking about the various ways in which things can be used for more than just a slightly geeky pastime.

notimagain · 01/04/2025 19:54

Unfortunately I can’t find images to post but a year or two back there were one or two efforts at generating interesting tracks around Kyiv as a bit of a show of two fingers to anyone watching in Russia..
