i can't think what's wrong with it. it whirrs then is quiet but it does it all the time. i did think it might be the fan but the computer never gets stucks and it's been whirring for months.

any suggestions, it's dead noisy

hoover the fan and see if it makes a difference. They can build up dust and dirt that makes them noisy.

doesn't seem to have done much, maybe i'll have to take the side off and hoover some more.

You've got a choice of case fan, processor fan and graphics card fan. Could be any of them (or something else) making the noise, but two of those you won't see unless you take the side off.

Don't put the hoover in though; static off it could fry the internal components...

should i get the nice pc man in?

Try taking the side off and seeing where the noise is coming from.

If it's a fan, see if you can dislodge the dust. Otherwise the fan bearing might be going.

FYI, the cheapset fans (case fans) start at about £4.99, so it's not the end of the world if that's on its last legs...

"see if you can dislodge the dust" by blowing on it, while ensuring the PC is plugged in, with the power turned off at the wall, and also ensuring you are touching the metal case to earth yourself...

i'll open it up when he's out kevlarhead, he'll freak if i break it
