I've been fighting with Facebook all day and have reached the point where I genuinely want to throw my laptop out of a window! I don't see that there's anything anyone can do about this, but I need to rant to blow off steam!!

Somehow I got myself signed out of Facebook, I've no idea how, it wasn't deliberate. The email address I used to sign up to it originally is an ancient gmail one that I don't have access to any more - deleted I guess? That wouldn't matter if I could remember the password! But I can't, and the only way to reset it is through the email! There's no option to recover that gmail account - if I try it just thinks I want to register for a new one. So I can't access FB and I can't access my old email account that they'd send a code to. There is no way to contact help on either of these platforms. I created a new FB account with my business email, found the profile I'm locked out of and reported it as someone impersonating me, hoping that would lead to support, but just had an automated reply saying it's fine.

It wouldn't matter so much just having a duplicate account but I do a lot of my decluttering through FB and was mid-conversation with someone wanting to buy something! My listings are all up there with my old account and people could be messaging me to enquire about them, and it'll seem like I'm just ignoring them!

I'm totally stumped about what to do. I've spent the whole bloody day on it and am ready to bite someone at this point!!

I have a similar problem with an old Hotmail address My laptop had the password stored and when it crashed I couldn’t log in again. I barely used it but it had some important old correspondence on it. I have tried and tried and tried to get back into it but it just isn’t accepted . There seems to be no helpline and no way to contact Microsoft. I’m really upset. I’m actually quite angry too that account I set up and need is just impossible to get back into.

Gmail (and Hotmail, for that matter) became so frustrating to deal with when you have the tinniest issue to figure out. There's practically no chance you'll get any kind of support and you can only go mad trying to prove it's you.

Having an fb account linked to a non existent email account is hardly a “minor issue”.
OP there is no way to recover it and you’ll just have to start again and make sure you initiate two factor authorisation which exists for this reason. Unfortunately you just have stay on top of these things these days.

Thanks everyone. It's just so frustrating!! It would be something if I could just get my old account deleted and start afresh, but it's just sitting there laughng at me! All this stuff is listed on there and people will be contacting me - it's painful!

I've tried following all the 'steps' Facebook suggest but getting a big fat nowhere with it. I even tried teling them I'm incapaciated/dead but they won't just accept that without a doctor's certification or something. Urgh. If ONLY there was a bloody helpline/chat service. I miss when there'd be human beings you could talk to about this stuff!

I lost my account years ago. I was not comfortable sending the amphibious of documentation they required to give me access so I started again with a different t account.
