Having a problem saving & reopeing Docs with Word 2007

I save them & email them to my other comp & I can't open them

Can I change something to make them work in other versions of word?

So you save word 2007 docs and try and open in newer versions? ...if its too an older version of word it won´t accept it. Save 2007 doc as an older version in the drop down menu when opened to save.

Or is it the attachment that you cannot select?

Umm I think it's cos I'm trying to open in an older version of word

so if the other computer has an older version of word, save the file as word97, when you go to save the file again you will see the format you can choose to save file as, select it from there.

But can I set the version I save it to as a default or do I have to do it each time?

Found it 'TOOLS' is now at the bottom of the save window

Do it each time you save and send to other computer

The other thing you can do is to download the compatibility pack on the computer with the earlier version of Word & it will convert your files. You may lose some of the new features, but you'd do that anyway by saving it in the previous format.(It says you need to download all the high priority Office updates before installing the compatibility pack)
If you have this, you can open docs even if you've forgotten to save it in the correct format - I put it on my laptop because DD has Word 2007 at college & keeps forgetting to save her homework properly before emailing it home

I worked out how to save it as an earlier word doc - so that seems to be working

It's more of an issue when I send it to a work colleague

But I seem to have fixed it

You can change the default settings in Word 2007 to save in Word97-2003 format. Saves buggering about each time.

I have Word 2007 and I routinely save docs in 2003-7 format because otherwise no-one I email them to can open them (unless they have 2007 too)
