I'm currently using Norton and whilst it seems to be doing the job, the renewal price just keeps leaping up and up.
Is there an alternative that could be recommended please? Needs to be windows pc, not apple.

Bitdefender is a good free product. Their paid package has some additional features and is also pretty good.

I've only ever used the Windows Defender that comes with a windows account and I have never had a virus

I think unless you are regularly visiting dodgy websites, or doing things like illegal file sharing, you don't need any extra anti virus software on a modern Windows 10 and Windows 11 system.
Note: Win 10 stops getting security updates in mid 2025.

That's kind of my thinking. We have a very old win 8 pc that hubby uses for invoicing clients but most online stuff is now through his phone. If the pc blows, we won't replace it. DH did kill an old pc by downloading music from a memory stick a friend sent him, which contained a virus, and has never downloaded anything again. My laptop is win 10 but I'm a bit more savvy than DH anyway re computers. I think I'll not renew Norton. I feel robbed.

Norton is a massive scam I think. It just adds a load of bloatware to the computer and slows everything down. FIL swears by it and keep trying to convince him it's a waste of money...

To be honest I'd be more concerned with using a Win 8 PC, which hasn't had security updates since 2016. That is far more of a risk than ditching Norton on a modern Windows pc.

He just uses it as a word processor now. I could disconnect it from Internet and he'd not notice lol
