Excel conditional formatting

I am no stranger to Excel, but this has me stumped.
Im trying to do conditional formatting that changes the colour of the cell if the number is higher, lower or equal to the number in the cell in the column before. I can work that out but cant work out how to copy that formatting for the rest of the sheet. There will be 50+ columns.
Any ideas?

Isn't it just copy and paste format? Pretty sure that's what I did last week when I had to do similar.

Use the $ to anchor the formula to the column you want

In manage rules, using the applies to bar to apply to the cell range you want.

It is usually easier to highlight all cells you want the conditional formatting to apply to before setting the rule, but you can change with in the manage rules function.
