I was hoping someone would know a bit more than I do about WhatsApp. I have a guy friend who keeps his privacy settings with read receipts off so when you send a message the two ticks remain grey. You can never tell whether the message was read or not.

We haven’t spoken for around 4 months for reasons I won’t bore you with, but our chat is still on my list of chats when I go into my WhatsApp.

It caught my eye that the ticks have now turned blue. So I went into the chat and on the message information bit it shows that it was read on 25/08/24 at 13.08pm (the last message I sent was on 05/05/24 and were left on grey ticks until now).
Would these ticks automatically turn blue when he puts read receipts back on or would he have to go into this message itself for it to show the date/time he read it?

To me it sounds like he’s turned on read receipts, and on 25/08 he opened your chat and read your message, having never done so before. Maybe he ignored it, or archived the chat.

Possibly he blocked you and has now unblocked you and opened/read the message.

He’s just unblocked you I’m guessing
