Does anyone remember an old cartoon where the character was trying to get his two bits? At the end he gets his two bits. Might be Tom and Jerry. Please help!

Two bits of what?

There's a line from Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Shave and a haircut - 2 bits

Two bits of what?

If I recall correctly, "2 bits" is US slang for 25 cents.

Just speculating, if the $ symbol comes from 'pieces of eight', maybe '2 bits' is derivative. Maybe I'm just babbling.

I think you're right. "Pieces of eight" came from the Spanish Colonial Real, which came in a few denominations the biggest of which was the eight reales coin. That could be cut into eight pieces, or "bits". The US dollar replaced the real with one dollar being equivalent to eight reales. So two bits is a quarter of a dollar.
