Ok tell me why I can't do this?

I have broad band upstairs in my office for work.

I have broad band down stairs for my lap top -

So why can't I go wireless upstairs and stop paying for my broad band. Or is it not that simple.

Many thanks

Do you mean that you have two broadband lines? You can get rid of one and go wireless.

DH said is your broadband ADSL or cable? Then he said, "Either way, she can go wireless."

DH said you need to get a wireless ADSL router (which plugs into your phone line). Your laptop will probably have a wireless card and your office computer can be plugged straight into the router.

Yep, it's fairly simple if you follow the instructions and most companies have phone support lines you can ring.

Rhymenocerous · 19/03/2008 18:45

It isn't that simple - you need to find out if your PC has a LAN card in it. The only way you can find out however is to go and by a dongle, set it up and it will either work or tell you you need a LAN card.

All new PC's with Windows Vista have them but many old ones don't.

Eve34 · 19/03/2008 20:19

is that my PC or the office PC?

My PC is quite old (about 6 years) and I recently got a router which I plugged into the PC and connect the laptop wirelessly.

I thought it would be impossible to do myself but it worked just fine. Step by step instructions helped, but only the 2nd time when I bothered to read them!
