My laptop is possessed (but works perfectly for dh)

Got a new laptop after xmas - from the start is has had this weird habit when I'm on the internet. If I try to scroll down a page using the scroll bar on the right - 9 times out of 10 it minimises the screen instead of scrolling down. It does the same if I try to click anywhere on screen too. It is driving me insane and makes it difficult to do anything on the laptop. Some nights when it's driving me nuts I get dh to have a go and it of course acts fine for him and never minimises. Tonight it would not under any circumstances let me open up microsoft work - it just ignored my frantic clicking. I get dh to have a go - he does the same as me and clicks on the icon - and guess what? it opens up for him. So my only conclusion can be that the effing laptop is possessed.

Any other suggestions? I'm close to chucking it out of the window tonight.

Do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel? if so what does pressing it down do? I could only think you might press harder on it than DH and activate it.

no mouse - am using the little touch pad on the laptop.

If that is it then go to control panel, open up the mouse item there and look for settings for wheel button. I set mine to none ages ago.

hmm don't know then but there might be settings for that in control panel worth looking at.

Some touchpads can have functions assigned to the corners of the touchpad - yours could be set to minimize & you're touching the corner - maybe your DH doesn't start stroking it quite so far up?

Funny, my laptop likes me and hates my dh! We put it down to his magnetic field, which also stops watches!

Jenkeywoo · 18/03/2008 00:01

ooh rustybear - that sounds feasible? I'm going to trawl through control panel and see what I can find.

whoah - just used touch pad in top right hand corner and it did the whole minimize thing - this could change my life - it's been driving me mad for months. Now got to figure out how to stop it. dh just said 'see, I told you, you were clicking in the wrong place' - and get it was mumsnet not him who sorted it out for me..
