2 months of photos gone from Google photos

Hi I had to get a new phone as my old one froze and wouldn't turn back on.
I logged into Google photos no problems and I looked to see if some baby photo's were on there and they was no problems.
I've just checked again and 2 months worth seem to be missing.
I was hoping someone might have some ideas as I'm not very good with phones.

There are 2 possibilities I can immediately think off:

1. The photos have been archived. Not sure what phone you have but if I go into my Google Photos app and click on "library" at the bottom, then a screen pops up. This screen has menu options at the top where there is the word "Archive". If I click on that I can see some photos.
2. The photos may have been on your phone and not uploaded to Google photos. Some people send me photos through messaging apps such as WhatsApp and these aren't automatically uploaded. I have to go to the particular messaging app and choose the photos I want to save to Google Photos.

The photo's are back from 2014. If I log onto Google photos online they are on there but not on my app on my phone.
