iPhone Apple Pay contactless not working

I have a new iPhone. For about a month the Apple Pay contactless function worked. Now it doesn’t at all. When I’m in any shop and try to use it I double click, pick my card, hold it by the reader and the reader doesn’t register it at all.

After much googling I have tried:

removing all cards and adding again
hard reset of the phone
signing out of Apple ID and logging in again
manually selecting cards from wallet
tried different cards from wallet in different shops and readers

anyone else has this problem and got any tips on how to fix?

Apple has brilliant tech support. Ring them.

There is no real way to test nfc except to attempt to make a payment

Apple support have access to diagnostic data from your phone and will probably change it under warranty so you will just have to ring them, good luck with it

I'm sure you've tried this but can you double check your NFC I'd switched on?

hotcandle · 28/09/2023 23:16

You can test your NFC by holding your phone up against any contact less bank card. Obviously no payment will go through but a message will pop on screen

Thanks I spoke to Apple yesterday. They ran diagnostics over the phone said everything appeared normal, so next step is to go into Apple Store.

Think it means near field communication or somthing, type... what does NFC stand for into google and click search

Presume apple suport checked it was turned on, although i always found their support to be be "as usless as a computer with only 2 ports"

I had this problem with my iPhone SE that was just over 2 years old. It's not fixable and was a HUGE problem for me as I am a T1 diabetic and use a continuous glucose monitor which works via NFC.

Without a working NFC function I had no warning of overnight lows or highs and had to revert to painful and much less frequent manual finger prick checks.

Eventually the retailer replaced the phone after reminding them of the "fit for purpose" part of the consumer regulations.

Apple Store were very helpful and have an NFC diagnostic tool BTW
