Help! Unlink notes on old iPhone

Ikeameatballlunch · 04/08/2023 20:11

My children use an old iPhone for game apps when we are away.

I was updating some games and all the notes on iCloud have downloaded onto the old phone.

I HAVE managed to unlink them somehow before on the iPad but I can't for the life of me remember how...

Anything I make or delete is being updated across both phones!

Does anyone know how?

i think it's under iCloud settings in the main settings app - you can choose what to upload to the cloud and onto other devices.

I think you can also choose to make notes just on your phone rather than stored in the cloud at all.

Thank you for speedy reply - it's already popped up on both phones.

Anything I delete from the old phone deletes from this one.

How do i redirect or sever the link for just the notes onto that device? I've done it somehow before as it doesn't do it for the iPad that the kids use.

Bar saving everything to a new folder on my iPhone till I can work it out?

Do you actually need them on any other device? If you don't, I'd put them all into the 'just this phone' account under notes on the new phone - you might have to copy them there if they're already in the cloud. And then just save future notes to that account. Or, turn off syncing of notes etc to icloud.

If you do need them on other devices, just not the new phone, then I'd delete the notes app entirely from the new phone. I'm not sure that it's possible to turn off the icloud notes to just one device, but maybe it is. I only know how to stop it saving it to the cloud in the first place.

It sounds like you still have your iCloud account logged in on the phone, which may also have access to email, password and wallet etc.

I recommend Erasing the phone.
Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Erase all Content and settings

And set it up as a new phone, just follow the steps.

If you need to add Apps, then create a new iCloud account in the Childs name.

Shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes.

Thank you all - it was fixed by going into iCloud settings on the old phone and turning off everything that i didn't want to be used/ linked on there, including wallet etc.

There's a couple of kids Lego apps on there you can't get any more that they adore for ultra boring moments. We turn off internet and it's not got a sim so it's basically a small tablet. It's a low screen holiday otherwise!

I knew I'd done it before but couldn't remember how!

I would still advise to erase the phone as it is still signed into your iCloud account, or at least sign out of iCloud.

If the phone is mislaid your credentials may be maliciously accessed especially if the pin is known.

Yes plus one for always erase old phone, god know what else is syncing, kids will delete your photos, videos and emails, to make space for more games is a common issue

Also your google history could be syncing, they could see cookies revealing every site you visited

Thanks for the support, I'm amazed how apathetic people appear to be about taking simple steps to protect their data.

I assuming it's boring for most people, they just want to find a way to make things work...
