The incredible unkillable iPhone

Several weeks ago, I dropped my new and much loved iPhone in water, didn't even notice it. There it lay, totally submerged, for several hours.

When I fished it out, it was dripping water from everywhere and refused to even turn on (understandably).

Last week, I managed to turn it on. Connected it to iTunes but it wouldn't "restore".

Some days later it restored, but had no reception (couldn't make/receive phone calls) and earphone plug didn't work. But it connected to WiFi internet.

Today, it WORKS. Internet, phone, e-mail, iTunes, earplugs, The Whole Works.

How is it even possible?

Is it even possible for an electronic device to come back from the dead after two weeks?

I forgot to say I put it in the oven and cranked up the heat to about 180 C. Left if there for 10 mins or so. When I took it out it was searing hot.

Do you think I saved the iPhone by cooking it, or was it such a miracle device that it survived not the drowning but also the subsequent cooking?

Apparently standard practice is put it in the airing cupboard for 2 weeks, don't try to turn it on.. will have sorted itself 90% of the time.

So you dropped it in the toilet and then cooked it in the oven You don't deserve one of those beautiful gadgets

truly beautiful things.

We washed and tumbled dried an ipod (first kind of mini ones) and after a few weeks it worked fine, only thing wrong was a cracked screen

I stuck it in the oven in the hope that water would evaporate before it did any damage. Can't say if it helped.

Frankly, I am surprised to hear that soaked phones are expected to work (90% of the time) after two weeks of airing. Apparently, most phones have a water damage sensor inside (which allows manufacturers to see it's been in water and reject warranty claims) and iPhone has one that is visible through its earphone jack.

this is a good outcome... it is no the water that causes the problems within electrical devices it is actually the other items like salt, copper and other extra that kill devices.

I have an ipod touch (work wont let me use an iphone) and so far as i can tell it is a very well made item which is very well sealed apart from the connector at the bottom..

You are correct in what you did.. if you drop any electronic device in water... if you let it dry out for a few days in a warm environment you have a good chance of getting it back... turing it on too soon can blow something crucial..

Now write out 100 times on the wall "I must not drop my iphone in the toilet"
