Anyone got a kindle scribe?

I'm hovering over the buy button on Amazon prime day. Anyone got one?

I fancy it for doodling, note taking but maybe can just about justify as my existing kindle is getting old ...but it still works fine so I don't exactly need a new one to read. Handy for pdfs though because my current little one is awful for display. Plus you can write in them to do sudoku which is cool.

🤔

Bumping as you had no response. I'd like to know this too as I'm debating between a Remarkable and a Kindle Scribe.

Ohhh well, I will update you @FiftynFooked ..I bought one...! But .. it's for my birthday which is soon and like the child I am, I am waiting until then to use it 😆

From what I read, remarkable is better for notes but that's all it does and there are hidden costs. I kind of wanted a new kindle, as my old one is about 7 years old now and it's getting a bit tricky to charge.

Ooh happy birthday! Will you let me know what it’s like? I probably won’t buy one for a couple of months. Might even wait for Black Friday. I like the idea of it being multi functional. I love my paper white which isn’t that old. Plus I wonder whether it’ll be a bit big for reading? Keep me posted!

Mumteedum · 19/08/2023 11:59

Yeah I think it will be big for reading usual books, but hoping work pdf's might be good and then I can make notes. I've got some research papers to start ploughing through 🙂

I will definitely let you know how it goes and thanks for birthday wishes x

@FiftynFooked well, few days in. I do love it.. brilliant for doodling if you like drawing and brilliant for notes. Reading... It is a bit big. Wonderful for pdfs and illustrated books. Love the extra settings for dark mode and warm light.

It is really good. But my old kindle is still a better size just for books.

One thing that is good is that you can lay in bed and prop it up in landscape mode with two columns and that makes it easy to read.

I'm v happy with it but I definitely like having my old one as well.

How good is it at reading handwriting that may not be, um, very legible?

That’s great! Thanks for coming back to report. I’ve realized that size and functionality wise it’s very similar to my iPad Air. I’m going to try a matte screen cover which is supposed to help the writing experience and see how I get on. Still seems a lot of money to spend on something I may not get full use out of. But I’m a bit of a magpie when it comes to gadgets! 😍

Mumteedum · 27/08/2023 07:54

No worries. I think it's definitely not for everyone but it is my kind of thing. I love my kindle(s)! I like it being separate from the internet and no temptation to flick into Mumsnet instead 😁

I also used notebooks at work a lot and now have so many that they're a pain to lug around so this will be great for me.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but can I ask if there is any function to turn written notes into text to export on the kindle scribe? I would be using it to write extensive noted on. Would be great if it could be translated and saved as a Word file

Mumteedum · 10/12/2023 17:56

@StormySam you can save as text but it's a bit rough and ready. It's a txt file I think and you still have to format it.

I think the alternative one is called Readable and I think works better for this function.

I like my Kindle because I like the books and the scribe is brill for pdfs and doodles.
