Smart watch recommendations

I live alone (for the first time in my life) in an area where I don't have family or close friends. I'm 79, fit and active, but accidents happen and I am worried about falling at home and not able to get to my phone.

I think I should buy a smart watch that you can make calls from. I have an apple phone but the watches are so expensive - can anyone recommend an adroid watch that would link to my phone and is idiot proof and reliable.

I've been googling and looking at Amazon but there's too much choice and I would rather go by a personal recommendation than reviews.

I definitely do not want one of those devices where you have to pay a monthly fee and wear a pendant. I might be old but not old enough or frail enough for that!

If you have an iPhone then I would get an iwatch - not the latest model but maybe an SE model or older.
Quick look online and you can get a 2022 SE model for £220, or a refurbished one.

I think some of the newer models of iwatch have a falls detection functionality, and can link to your contacts. I have an iwatch with cellular data so I can make calls without my phone being anywhere near, I pay £5 a month for that, separate to my phone contract.

Good advice, and I should be less mean with myself, I can afford it. No point in spending £50 for something that doesn't do what I want. Friends saying the same of course!

A professionally refurbished Apple Watch v5 will set you back under £150 (see MusicMagpie on eBay or Amazon, for example) and includes the fall detection, heart monitoring and emergency autocalls to your chosen number features. I got one for me, and now DP and MIL have them too - they're also great if you need a little encouragement to get your daily exercise in.
