Can I buy an Apple MagSafe charger that isn’t £80? 🔌

Unfortunately my MagSafe 2 charger came to an unfortunate end with my robovac this morning (my own fault). Frustratingly a replacement is £79 which I simply don’t have at the moment. I don’t want to buy a dodgy fake but does anyone know if it’s possible to get a proper one for slightly cheaper anywhere please?

The only off brand one I’ve ever used made my laptop feel ‘buzzy’ and I didn’t trust it. Fake cables just aren’t worth the risk. As it’s a proprietary cable, unfortunately you’re locked into Apple. Can you borrow one from someone until you can afford it?

Best bet for lower cost is eBay. Either refurbished or 2nd hand (cheaper).

They may seem like relatively simple power adapters, but there's quite a bit if tech built into them. Hence not cheap...obvs Apple tax too.

Where are you looking? I did a Google and found Very £39 and Argos £45 (or am I looking up the wrong thing?)

Pretty sure we're talking laptop Power Supply Units, and not mobile device chargers.

Can't you use a usb-c / usb-c cable (from the charger) into one of your thunderbolt ports on your mac?
That's what I use.

Magsafe connectors on psu's are hardwired to psu.

Magsafe connectors on psu's are hardwired to psu.

I have a 2021 Mac Book Pro 14" and a 2020 Mac Book Pro 13"
The 13" MBP was only supplied with a USB-C Charge Cable rather than a magsafe connector.
I use this cable to also charge the 14" MBP which was supplied with a magsafe but saves me having to constantly change over the cables in the plug.
I haven't used the magsafe for charging since last November and use the 14" MBP 5 days a week for 9 hours. I'm not the only one at work who does this.

The magsafe may well be "hardwired" to the psu but the thunderbolt ports also work. Thats the whole point of thunderbolt ports, they are flexible in the type of accessory they support.

This explains it 🙂
Depends on the which model of mac book you have

This sounds very interesting I’ll give it a go tomorrow! Thank you.
