wordpress website building, with astra and elementor

Probably no one can help, but I'm using the above.
I've built some lovely pages in elementor, added pages from WP built headers and footers using WP and elementor, but I can't seem to marry them up into a cogent website. In fact I'm often messing up pages altogether and have to start again. the headers and footers don't appear on the pages despite entire site ticked. Despondent ++++

That looks very complicated and adding code is not something I'd even contemplate as it would probably blow up my PC!
Someone suggested press 'publish' and not save draft, so I'm finding the courage to do this...

Can you put the whole site behind a username and password, so you can publish but no-one can see it?

Someone has said because its only on my server and installed locally on my PC, it can't be seen yet. I have a domain name but haven't installed it yet and apparently that also stops it being seen. I've unticked the google search. It needed to be published for my menu to show up.

Wix was so simple in comparison.
