How do I programme my Sky remote to work the TV?

My parents have given us a Sky+ box to use instead of the old one we had before but we can't get the remotes to work the TV (volume on off etc) as we haven't programmed them and now we can't remember how......Anyone? TIA.

1 - make and model of TV?
2 - the rev of the sky handset
