Do I have to add a credit card to a child's iPhone

I want to put an app on DD's phone. It's an old iPhone. I can't get past the credit card details - have tried selecting none as payment but I need to add a credit card or PayPal. I don't want my credit card on her phone. The app is free - or rather I have paid a subscription but it was on her previous phone which she has lost. I just want to put it on this one. Can anyone help?

Put in a few wrong digits if that doesn’t work maybe it’s not a good app to have

You need to set up family sharing and 'ask to purchase'.

The family sharing then links to your credit card details but the child can not download an app or pay for anything without a request being sent to you to approve.

I put an I tunes gift voucher on and then use it when needed for apps etc. my iPhone isn’t linked to a card.

If you have a revoult card it gives you the option of creating a one time credit card number. You can add a few pence to it. It is handy if you want to sign up for a month access of a certain newspaper and do not want to deal with the hard sell when you try to cancel

If you want Family control on with Apple or Android then you have to add a payment card! We have a Monese card that you have to load with money (via an app so you can monitor spending) for it to work. It looks like a regular card to the IT company but ensure no major spending. We have also set up adult authorisation for all app store purchasing.

Isn’t it connected to her apple login? Or family sharing.

Family sharing. Don't unleash your DC with your credit card and a whole internet full of temptation

What app is it? I usually steer clear of apps that insist on payment methods. Better to stick with a clear subscription through the Apple Store that you can do through Ask to Buy or Family Sharing.
